Collaboration with Sensory Six Interiors
In the Fall of 2023, I collaborated with Sensory Six Interiors to produce two custom, large-scale landscape images for a commercial basement fitness center in Upstate New York.
The project called for local, Upstate New York landscapes. With the autumn leaves turning, I flew across the country and spent five days covering key spots over a 190-mile range to find the two best scenes to photograph for this space.
Scenes from the trip. Some good weather, some bad weather, but always incredible landscapes.
The final dimensions for the images were:
- 25 feet wide by 6 feet tall.
- 9 feet wide by 6 feet tall.
So what camera do you use when you need images that big?
I brought the Fuji GFX 100S on this shoot, with a variety of lenses. This camera’s 102 megapixel, medium-format sensor would give me the ability to shoot ultra high-resolution frames that would maintain visual clarity at large sizes, even at close viewing distances.
The Final Result
The images were printed and installed using vinyl wall wrap on drywall projections, rather than being framed. This gives a sense of separation between the images and the wall in the simplest way possible. Looking at the photos through the glass walls of the workout space, you get the same feeling as looking out a window at the natural world. There is a sense that the space carries outward beyond the photos, making the room feel bigger than it is.
